Available Form of ActiVin:

  1. Reddish brown powder: particle size of >90% through 100 mesh

Solubility Information:

  1. Soluble at 5% in ethanol
  2. Soluble at 10% in propylene glycol/water (50:50)
  3. Soluble at 10% in ethanol/water (25:75)
  4. Soluble at 5% in propylene glycol heated to 55 degrees C
  5. Soluble at 10% in hot water (60 degrees C)

 Threshold and Taste Imparting Levels in Water:

  1. Color Threshold of ActiVin: 3.6mg/8 oz. serving (15ppm)
  2. Flavor Threshold (JND): 75mg/8 oz. serving (300ppm)
  3. Taste Concentration: (astringency): 120mg/8oz.serving (500ppm)

 Functional Dose:

  • Current Dietary supplements provide 50-100mg of oligomeric proanthocyanidins.
  • Bio-medical research on ActiVin used doses ranging from 50-100 mg

Incorporation into a Beverage:

  1. Preferred Method: Dissolve ActiVin in ethanol/water (25:75) at 5-10%. Add to HFCS, mix thoroughly and add acids last (syrup formulation 1).
  2. Instead of ethanol/water, use propylene glycol/water (50:50) as the solvent for ActiVin. (It is helpful to disperse the ActiVin in propylene
    glycol and then add water: syrup formulation 2.)
  3. Disperse ActiVin into HFCS or juice concentrate, add water (must add ½ the amount of HFCS as water), mix thoroughly, and add acids last
    (syrup formulation 3).
